Making art is about the process of self-expression and problem solving. I begin with an idea; this could be a desire to translate a photographic image or a plein aire experience. It could also begin with a distilled memory, an emotion, or a desire to pay with certain shapes, colors, and texture within some structure, as long as it’s not too rigid. Once the process has begun, the problem solving begins. Sometimes it feels relatively easy and other times it is a real struggle. But, I almost always feel compelled to come to some resolution. In the end, my aim is to create art that is essential, intelligent, and expressive.
