“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” -Pablo Picasso. This is a quote that really resonates with local artist Cory Thompson. He uses this to describe his own artistic journey, adding that art was something that he simply always did. Thompson considers his background to be a mix of self taught and professionally trained. Starting off studying architecture at Western, he later decided to follow his love of art and study at the College For Creative Studies. This background in architecture is really reflected in the preciseness of his cityscapes.
Much of his work is inspired by the local Detroit area and reflects a lot of love for the city. Thompson says that he is inspired by impressionist art and his artwork is a combination of many things. He combines old and modern themes together while simultaneously collaborating reality and surrealism. Another prominent feature of his work is his vibrant colors. Thompson loves color and uses it to experiment within his work and creates the very beautiful and vibrant imagery his work is known for.
